Paua is only found in the sea around New Zealand. The colour of Paua Shell (a form of Abalone) varies from pale silvery white to deep greens and blues and every possible hue in between. Shell pieces are sturdy and thick. Each shell has a unique colour and shine/reflective pattern. Surfaces are smooth and the irridescent surface glows in the light.
With its brilliant watery colour, mystic earthy and organic feel, handmade Paua Shell jewelry will remind you of the blue Pacific and our connection to Mother Earth. Natural New Zealand Paua Shell fragments, highly polished, in soft organic forms, are the Natural Gem of the Pacific.
